School Uniform

We are proud of our school uniform and we ask that it is worn correctly, in full, every day. We know that our high expectations around uniform are sometimes described as strict – and we make no apology for that. Our approach is deliberate, and it is rooted in what is best for our students. Both suppliers offer online ordering as well as in-store shopping, and we recommend ordering early ahead of the new school year as demand is high over the summer. 

Why we place such importance on uniform

• A smart, consistent uniform creates a sense of belonging and pride. When students put on their uniform each morning, they are joining a community with shared values and shared standards. It is a visible statement that they are part of something bigger than themselves, and that we expect the best from every one of them.
• Uniform is also a great leveller. Whatever a family's circumstances, every student arrives at school dressed the same way. There is no pressure to keep up with fashion trends or branded clothing, no visible divide between students, and no distraction from what really matters – learning. This is particularly important to us as an inclusive school, and it sits alongside our wider work to ensure that no student is disadvantaged by their background.
• High standards in the small things support high standards in everything else. Students who take pride in their appearance are more likely to take pride in their work, their conduct and their school. A consistent approach to uniform also removes daily negotiation and uncertainty: students know exactly what is expected of them, staff apply the same expectations fairly to everyone, and valuable learning time is not lost to disputes about clothing.
• Finally, uniform prepares students for the world beyond school. Many workplaces have dress codes and expectations around presentation, and learning to meet a clear standard – even when it is not always convenient – is a valuable habit for life.

How we apply our expectations

We check uniform daily and we address issues quickly, consistently and without fuss. Where a student is unable to wear the correct uniform for a genuine reason, we simply ask that parents and carers contact us in advance so that we can support rather than sanction. We would much rather work with families to resolve a problem than see a student anxious about it.

We also recognise that uniform is a cost to families. We keep branded items to a minimum in line with government guidance on the cost of school uniforms, and our NPA runs regular second-hand uniform sales offering good-quality items at a fraction of the cost of new – a great way to save money and reduce waste. In addition, support is available for families who may struggle with the cost – please contact us in confidence if this applies to you. No student will ever be disadvantaged because of their family's circumstances.
