Mr Simon Baker : Chair of Governors

Our Board of Trustees is led by our Chair, Simon. Simon works closely with Jo, our Headteacher and fellow Trustees to provide strategic leadership and ensure the school continues to deliver the very best for our pupils. He is always happy to hear from members of our school community, and can be contacted via the Clerk to the Board through the school office.

Our 2026/2027 Governors

As a single academy trust, Newlands is governed by a Board of Trustees who are responsible for the strategic leadership and oversight of the school. The Board works closely with the Headteacher and senior leadership team to ensure that every child receives the best possible education.

Our Trustees bring a wide range of skills and experience from education, business, finance, and the local community. Together, they are responsible for three core functions: ensuring clarity of vision, ethos, and strategic direction; holding leaders to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils; and overseeing the financial performance of the trust, making sure money is well spent.

The Board of Trustees is accountable to the Department for Education and to the Members of the Trust, who provide an additional layer of oversight. Trustees are also company directors and charity trustees, and they carry out their duties in line with the Trust's Articles of Association, the Academy Trust Handbook, and charity and company law.

Our Trustees are volunteers who give their time freely because they are committed to the success of our school and the wellbeing of our pupils. They visit the school regularly, meet as a full board throughout the year, and operate committees covering key areas such as finance, audit, and standards.
