Girls’ School

Student Council

We encourage our students to share their views and opinions and to become involved in all aspects of school life. The Student Council drives forward ideas and suggestions for improvement, helping to implement change.

Student Council has contributed to many initiatives such as the design of a new Science laboratory and allocating funds for picnic benches and outdoor shelters. They interviewed the current Headteacher and Deputy Headteachers as part of the recruitment process and they decide which charities will benefit from some of our non-uniform days, such as Save the Children, Children in Need and The Red Cross. They were also heavily involved in the selection process for the current school caterers, asking insightful questions and tasting samples of the food offered by the various companies during the tendering process.

All students are eligible to stand for election to the Student Council, which is chaired by the Head Girls. Every autumn, assemblies are dedicated to learning about the democratic process as the candidates present to their peers, with two representatives elected per year group.  The chosen members put forward their ideas and develop skills in listening and public speaking, with everything they do underpinned by the school’s core values of courage, commitment and compassion.
