Year 10

Medicine Through Time, 1250 to Present 

In this unit pupils will study the development of medicine from the Middle Ages to the modern day.  They will consider the impacts of key technological innovations, key individuals and the effects of war, religion and chance on the development of medicine.

Historical Environment:  The British Sector of the Western Front:  injuries, treatment & the trenches

This unit will focus on British medical efforts and the challenges faced by medics during WWI.  Pupils will be taught how to analyse, interpret, and evaluate historical sources.

Period Study:  The American West, c1835-c1895

In this unit pupils will study the westward expansion of the United States.   This will include topics such as the Plains Indians, cattle ranching, and law and order. 

   

Year 11

British Depth Study:  Anglo-Saxon and Norman England, c1060-1088

This unit will look life in England before and after the Norman Conquest of 1066.  Topics of study will include Saxon society and religion, the role of the House of Godwin, the Battle of Hastings, and William’s consolidation of power.

Modern Depth Study:  Weimar and Nazi Germany, 1918-1939

This unit will consider the implications of the First World War on Germany and its government.  Students will study the emergence of the Weimar Republic, the problems that this new government faced, the rise of the Nazi Party, and details of what life was like for Germans living under Nazi rule.

Assessment

All assessment is completed through external examinations which will take place at the end of Year 11.
