Girls’ School

Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to our website!

Newlands has been providing high quality girls’ education for over one hundred years. During this time, the school has gone from strength to strength and sits currently in the top 10% of state schools in terms of pupil progress.

The public examination results of 2019 were once again very pleasing, with 88% of girls gaining between a grade 9 and a grade 4 at GCSE level. In the Sixth Form, we had a 100% pass rate, with 78% of the      A-Level grades at A* to C.  All girls were successful in securing their choice of university or apprenticeship and we are delighted to see one of our highest performing mathematicians going off to Oxford to join the two Year 13s who gained admission there last year.

At Newlands, all girls can expect great teaching from well-qualified specialists. Facilities include an indoor swimming pool, sports hall, gym, drama studio, design and technology suite and a dedicated music block. With an exciting, broad and balanced curriculum, there is always something new and interesting to learn.

Outside the classroom, the plethora of extra-curricular activities means that everyone can pursue something that they are passionate about. Our programme of school trips offers opportunities to visit both the local area and places many miles away too, such as the USA and Vietnam.

Our superb pastoral team ensures that every girl is cared for and supported, with an emphasis on the promotion of well-being. Kindness, good humour and politeness characterise everyday life at Newlands and the girls’ excellent behaviour helps keep everyone safe and happy.

I hope you enjoy looking through these website pages. I also hope that you will want to come and visit us. Our annual Open Evening runs from 5.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of October each year, for which no appointment is necessary. I also conduct school tours throughout the year and to book a place, you need only to ring the school on 01628 625068 and ask to speak to my P.A., Mrs Liz Bateson.

I look forward to seeing you soon.
