About Newlands Girls' School

Newlands Girls’ School is a truly wonderful place to work.  The school culture and the relationships between staff and students make us very special.  From fantastic academic results to sporting triumphs and inspirational student leadership, our school community thrives. In May 2024, Ofsted reaffirmed what we already know — that Newlands remains outstanding in every sense. In fact, our latest Inspection Report opens by describing us as ‘exceptional’ - perfectly capturing the spirit and standards of our school.

At the heart of our ethos are the 3Cs: Courage, Commitment and Compassion. These values are woven into every part of school life and inspire our students to dream big and set no limits on what they can achieve. We want every child at Newlands to feel safe, supported, and excited to come to school. That means expert teaching from passionate specialists, a broad and stimulating curriculum, and plenty of opportunities to shine beyond the classroom.

We’re proud of our vibrant House System, which brings students of all ages together through spirited competitions, events and activities — building friendships and fostering an incredible sense of belonging. Our Student Council has been instrumental in shaping school life, driving forward fresh ideas and meaningful initiatives. Our expert pastoral teams work tirelessly to ensure that every student is seen, heard and supported, with wellbeing at the centre of everything we do.

Kindness, good humour and respect are part of the experience at Newlands. We expect the very best from our students — and they deliver it, every single day.

Newlands proudly delivers exceptional education year on year and we are currently ranked in the top 20% of state schools nationally for student progress. Our stable staff body and wealth of experience and expertise, combined with a drive and vision to embrace new ideas and initiatives means that our forward-thinking school continues to develop and evolve and we would love for you to come and see this for yourself.

Where we are going

As a school, we are constantly striving to be better and are currently implementing Tom Sherrington's Walkthrus as well as using research from Steplab, Peps Mcrae and evidence from some of the highest performing schools in the country. We believe in a consistent approach to teaching and learning but also departmental autonomy and put evidence-based approaches at the centre of our practise.

We have a Senior Leadership Team who positively embrace new ideas. If you are passionate about educational innovation and excited by the prospect of making a lasting impact in a school that values forward-thinking leadership, we would love to hear from you!

Join us in shaping exceptional futures for our students.
