Trips and Activities

Our trips to London are a great opportunity for psychology students to complement their in-class studies with a practical and engaging real-world experience.

In year 12 students study Psychology by investigating the different approaches that Psychologists use to explain human behaviour. Freud’s Psychodynamic perspective is one example.

In July 2023, the year 12s had the opportunity to visit Freud’s Museum in London. This is a museum dedicated to Sigmund Freud, located in the house where Freud lived with his family during the last year of his life. Freud was the founder of psychoanalysis, and his daughter Anna Freud, was a pioneering child psychoanalyst. Students will have the opportunity to visit Freud’s famous psychoanalytic couch as this has come to represent the practice of psychoanalysis itself and is undoubtedly one of the most famous pieces of domestic furniture in the world.

In year 13 students apply their knowledge from year 12 to understand the implications in the real world. One area of study is mental illness and students will have the opportunity to attend a workshop on schizophrenia.

Educational trips are encouraged, and the department will have many more exciting opportunities in the future, to visit/attend:  Museums such as the Science, Foundling and Bethlem, London Zoo, Sleep Research Centres, Prisons, Jack the Ripper Ghost Walk, Royal Courts of Justice, The Old Bailey Talks and Court sessions, as well as conferences by famous psychologists and Psychology Live in Disneyland Paris!
