Sixth Form
Welcome to Newlands Sixth Form
"Where every girl learns to lead her own way."
Why Newlands?
When you visit Newlands, you will discover a Sixth Form community that is committed to giving every girl the courage to take inititative, the confidence to be herself, and the compassion to lift others as she rises.
This covers far more than exellent teaching and outcomes.
Academics
We offer 29 A-level and Level 3 qualifications as well as the EPQ covering STEM, the arts, Business and humanities. Our options process builds the timetable around student choices, which means every year nearly all students are able to study all their chosen subjects.
Teaching and learning is central to the Sixth Form experience and our teachers use the latest research and evidence to develop their practice. Lessons are highly developed to ensure all girls make the very best progress. This is seen in our outcomes. Almost half our grades are A*-B and student progress is described as "Above Average" by the Department for Education and is the highest in Maidenhead as well as being above some local Grammar Schools.
Destinations
We don't just measure our success in grades. We make sure that every one of our students are able to progress successfully to their chosen next steps. Our girls leave to study courses as varied as Data Science to Digital Marketing, Economics to Music Technology. While we are rightly delighted that every year many of our Year 13 leavers go on to study at Oxbridge, Russel Group universities and win places on highly competitive degree programmes such as Law, Medicine and Dentistry, we are equally proud of the girls who progress to study Art, Film Studies and Fashion Marketing at over 40 universities.
Our girls do not just progress to universities. Increasing numbers of students win places on degree and high level apprenticeships with organisations such as GSK.
Support
Our Sixth Form team comprises a Head of Sixth Form, two Heads of Year, a Learning Mentor, Careers Advisor and Form Tutors. These colleagues design a pastoral programme that reflects the changing issues faced by 16-18 year old girls as well as life skills that will support and develop our students as they progress through the Sixth Form and beyond.
All students are guided by our Careers Advisor and their Form Tutor to ensure they are fully aware of the vast range of options available once they leave school.
Our girls are also listened to. Our Prefect Team and Head Girls are key leads in student voice and are able to directly feed in to the school Senior Leadership Team.
Enrichment and fun
While lessons, study and hard work are a given, our girls are able to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Whether taking part or leading competitions in our thriving House System or organising charity fund raising, Sixth Form students are key students at Newlands. They are both role models and leaders of groups such as Music Ensembles, Performing Arts Choir, Engineering Society or paired reading groups.
In addition, Year 12 students take part in weekly enrichment sessions with opportunities including volunteering in the local community, working with younger students, taking on an EPQ, recreational sport and creative arts.
Welcome from the Head Girls
As Head Girls at Newlands, we are extremely proud to be part of a school that values both our personal growth and academic achievement. Newlands is more than just a place to learn; it is a supportive, inclusive and diverse community where every student is encouraged to explore their strengths and take on new challenges.
There are countless opportunities for leadership roles and a huge focus on student voice at Newlands. Whether it’s through the house system, student committees, or prefect teams, everyone is given a chance to make a difference in school life. Our wide range of extracurriculars means that there’s something for everyone to be involved in.
The relationships between students and staff are built on care and mutual respect. Our teachers go above and beyond to ensure a successful and encouraging environment, creating a true sense of belonging and security.
Our school values courage, commitment and compassion are at the heart of everything we do. As we look back on our time at Newlands, we are filled with pride and are excited to welcome prospective students into an environment where they can thrive and excel.
