Trips and Activities

The DaCT department run a range of trips to help students engage with the subject content through industry visits and real world links.

Design and Technology

We visit the Mini factory in Oxford with our Year 10 and take a tour of the manufacturing plant. The vast array of robots on the production line give students the opportunity to understand how they link into the production process. The students are able to interact with experts and always have lots of questions.

In Year 7 we go to the Harry Potter Studio Tour. We take a behind the scenes look at the sets from the Harry Potter films and take part in a set design workshop. This is a great way to explore mechanisms, construction and design methods.

Food Preparation and Nutrition

The Handmade Cake company in Maidenhead facilitate a trip for our Year 11 students who experience the rigour that the food industry maintains as part of health and hygiene as well understanding the complexity     of developing new flavours and textures in a food product.

Waltham Place is our Year 10 trip where students learn about food provenance and they have the opportunity to make butter and flour. The tour around the farm show students where our food comes from and how animals and land needs to be looked after.

DaCT

We are very lucky to be hosted by Verizon, a tech company in Reading, where Year 8 students get to meet high profile women from the organisation and take part in a team building design challenge which is judged on a set of criteria by 4 Verizon judges.
