Curriculum

 

The curriculum follows the Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education pan-Berkshire 2012 – 2017. Students explore and evaluate religious concepts and questions relating to religion and subsequently reflect upon their own personal views. Two main aims of RE stated within the syllabus are to learn about religion and to learn from religion. Students will acquire and develop “knowledge and understanding of Christianity and other principal religions represented in Great Britain”, and will develop “an understanding of the influence of beliefs, values and traditions on individuals, communities, societies and cultures”.

 

RE teaches students to respect others’ views and to communicate their own views in a respectful and sensitive way. It prepares students for adult life as it encourages them to consider moral issues and their own views whilst learning about different societies, cultures and religions. It encourages students to develop their own sense of identity and belonging within a pluralistic society and global community.

 

 

Religious Studies can be chosen as a GCSE and/or A-Level.
