Year 10 GCSE History

Pupils will study two sections of the School’s History Project, OCR 1935
Coursework accounts for 25% of the final mark.

1 The History of Medicine – a study in development from prehistoric man to the present day.
This topic is examined by examination Paper 1 – 2 hours, consisting of structured essays/questions and Paper 2 – 1hr 30 mins, consisting of source-based evidence questions.

2 History Around Us – a study of a local site and community.

This local study looks at Maidenhead during World War II and explores the war’s impact on life in Maidenhead. Evacuation, Bombing, Fund Raising are some of the themes covered. This section is examined wholly by coursework (2,000 words approx.) This is an area that we have identified as being difficult for less able students and have worked on the materials and tasks to make the coursework more accessible.

Year 11

3 Germany 1919-45: Study in Depth
This study unit concentrates on the reasons for the development of totalitarianism in Germany and its impact on the German people. The study unit explores the failure of the Weimar Republic, the rise of the Nazi Party in the 20s and 30s, the Nazi regime and its control of Germany between 1933-45 and what it was like to live under the Nazis. This topic is examined by examination
Paper 1 – 2 hours, consisting of structured essays/questions.

4 The Irish Question – a study of a modern day issue in the light of its history. This section is examined wholly by coursework (2000 words approx.).
