Year 10 Food Technology

Students will learn about nutrition and the importance of eating a balanced diet. The work will encourage students to understand the importance of a balanced diet and how it is possible to achieve this with careful planning of meals. Obesity is an important issue regarding school children and it is essential that they are aware of the key facts regarding this and how they can improve the nutritional content of their daily diet. It is important to use the nutritional information to produce recipes successfully to achieve the required outcome. Recipe adaptation will encourage students to use their acquired knowledge to improve the recipes they are planning. Practical skills will be developed through demonstrations and practical assessed tasks.

Year 11 Food Technology – GCSE Coursework

Students follow the design process to design and make a food product. Students have a choice of 5 design briefs to follow, any of which can be tailor made to meet their own requirements. The product which is manufactured is entirely up to the student to design and then produce.

Key Learning Outcomes

Develop knowledge and understanding of the important nutrients found within the foods we eat.

How nutrients can help to produce a balanced diet and improve the nutritional intake.

Develop an understanding of the working characteristics of food and how these are used to create products.

Gain experience in using a variety of ingredients to produce products.

Develop skills in the handling of foods and using their characteristics of create appropriate dishes.
