Key Stage Three
- We have a commitment to building confidence, alongside musical skills relevant to today’s musical career paths, allowing every pupil to enjoy and achieve.
- The pupils have opportunities to access Music through the skills of Performing, Composing and Listening.
- From Year 7 pupils have access to wonderful facilities including 7 practice rooms, 2 drum kits, a large set of acoustic, electric and bass guitars, numerous keyboards, woodwind instruments, a recording studio and a computer suite with Music software for developing compositions (Sibelius and Cubase).
- Pupils explore one topic per term through activities in Performing, Composing and Listening.
Examples of topics and pupils' work
Year 7 A Theme for Countdown. Pupils learn all about rhythm and pulse, note values and rhythm notation whilst composing a new and exciting 30-second “clock” theme for the game show Countdown.
Year 8 Polyphonic Performance (Musical Futures). Pupils learn all about texture, culminating in a performance whereby they recreate the layers of a piece of music of their choice.
Year 9 Come to Jamaica! Pupils learn all about the Music of Jamaica, focusing primarily on Reggae, whilst composing the music for a TV advert commissioned by the Jamaican tourist board.
