T-Shirt
Students will design a T-Shirt using the skills that they have been taught. Students will be taught how to develop their own motifs and repeating patterns and will use this knowledge to create a repeating design of their own. They will then produce this on fabric using two or more of the techniques they have learnt. Students will learn how to use a range of fabric decoration techniques and how to combine them in order to decorate the surface of the fabric with their own designs.
Accessories
Students will design and make an accessory item on the work of a named fashion/textiles designer. The accessory will feature applied decoration as art of the design. They will learn to develop their own paper patter by modelling their item. The fabric is constructed in three fundamentally different ways and how this affects the working characteristics of the fabric. How to use an overlocker and it’s function. Students will develop their skills using the sewing machine and working with textile materials. Students should gain an awareness of the work of other designers and an awareness if/how CAD/CAM can be used to enhance their designs.
Key Learning Outcomes
Generate a range of ideas, recognising that they need to meet a range of needs and take users’ views into account.
Understanding of characteristics of materials and processes when manufacturing, and are aware of constraints.
Make and use their own detailed and realistic plans for achieving their aims.
Use words, labelled sketches and models to communicate their ideas.
Use suitable tools and equipment with some precision to put together components.
Test and evaluate their product against their specification showing they understand the situation in which it will be used.
Identify where evaluation of the design and make process and their products have led to improvements.
Modification of their work as it progresses.
Write a specification for their product and understand why this is necessary.
Make a 3D model for their product and use it to write an order of work.
Have an understanding of the constraints on a designer working in industry.
